the founders story and the team

I have worked in the banking industry since I was 18 years old and it wasn’t because I chose it, it chose me. Well, my grandfather chose it. He was a business owner in my small town of Taos, New Mexico and he personally knew the local bank president. Not sure what the conversation was that day or how long it took, I am assuming maybe 10 minutes. My grandfather asked him to hire his granddaughter. That 10 minutes defined my life and I wasn’t even there. Quickly after that conversation, I started working at the local bank in the bookkeeping department. My job was to stuff the checks in envelopes with the bank statements and I had a little water dauber to seal the envelopes. My desk was in the basement. Currently, in my day job, I am a Commercial Credit Underwriter with the Corporate Title of Vice-President.

My grandma Della was a creative woman, a decorative woodcarver (with 8 children) and she passed this creativity to my mother who can sew, paint, and loves to write (in cursive no less). Their creativity has passed on to me. For the last thirteen years of my career, I have had constant one on one interactions with business owners. When you are lending  up to $15 million dollars, you have to know your customer. I have interviewed hundreds of business owners and my job is to convince the credit committees (if I recommend an  approval) by what I write, to formally approve the requests. Here is where I found a glimmer of happiness: I love the interview and the customer loves talking about themselves. I am able to use the creativity my mother, Rose and grandmother, gave me by being able to write a remarkably interesting story. In 2019, I presented over $200 million in approved credit for the small businessman. Helping them to realize their dreams. A hundred interviews equals a hundred stories. I know how to write a good story. 

The Greatest Story Is Your Own was born from that conversation many years ago my grandfather had with the town bank president.  If that conversation never happened, I would have never been in banking, I would have never had the opportunity to hear and tell the stories of a multitude of business owners. I would have never realized my life passion. Writing your story.  ❤️🦋🌿
